What is the truest measure of a human life? Not wealth, not status, not talent — but character. In Character: The Grandest Thing in the World, Orison Swett Marden, the great New Thought author and founder of Success magazine, presents his timeless philosophical inquiry into the virtues that elevate human beings to their highest potential.

Marden argues that a person of genuine character possesses something more valuable than rubies, gold, crowns, or kingdoms. Writing with the passion of someone who devoted his life to understanding what separates the truly great from the merely successful, he shows that character is not inherited — it is built, thought by thought and action by action, through the daily choices we make.

In this program, you will explore:

  • Why character is humanity's most precious possession — more valuable than any material wealth
  • The danger of pursuing financial gain at the expense of spiritual and moral development
  • How great character is built daily through the quality of our thoughts and actions
  • The virtues that mark truly fulfilled individuals: honesty, perseverance, compassion, and integrity
  • Why moral courage is the foundation of all lasting success
  • How to nourish the inner life — mind and soul — alongside material achievement
  • The visible consequences of unethical success, and why character cannot be faked

A predecessor to today's personal development masters, Marden's insights are as profound today as when they were written. This audio program brings his philosophy to life for a new generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and seekers of the highest success.

About the Author

Orison Swett Marden (1848–1924) was one of America's most influential inspirational authors and the founder of Success magazine, which he launched in 1897. An orphan who overcame extraordinary hardship to put himself through school and ultimately earn degrees from Boston University and Harvard, Marden dedicated his life to studying what made individuals succeed and what kept them from reaching their potential. His 1894 book Pushing to the Front became an international bestseller and launched a career that produced dozens of works on success, character, and self-development. Marden is widely regarded as a founding father of the modern personal success movement, and his work is as relevant and powerful today as it was at the turn of the twentieth century.
