Ric Edelman
Ric Edelman is one of America's most trusted and recognized voices in personal finance. Born in Philadelphia in 1958, he co-founded Edelman Financial Services with his wife Jean in 1986 with a clear mission: to democratize financial planning by serving everyday Americans who were routinely overlooked by traditional Wall Street institutions. That vision grew into what is now Edelman Financial Engines — the largest independent financial planning and investment management firm in the nation, managing more than $300 billion in assets for 1.4 million households.
Edelman's influence extends far beyond the boardroom. For 32 years he hosted a top-rated personal finance radio program that reached approximately one million weekly listeners, and he has produced multiple television series and PBS specials bringing practical money wisdom to mainstream audiences. He has authored 13 bestselling books, including several New York Times #1 bestsellers such as The Truth About Money and The Lies About Money. His ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable advice has made him a go-to resource for investors at every stage of life.
His accolades are extensive: Barron's named him the #1 Independent Financial Advisor in the United States multiple times and inducted him into its Hall of Fame; Consumer Reports ranked his firm #1 for quality; and InvestmentNews awarded him its Lifetime Achievement Award. A forward-thinking innovator, Edelman holds two financial patents, created the iShares Exponential Technologies ETF, and founded the Digital Assets Council of Financial Professionals to educate advisors on cryptocurrency and blockchain. In 2025 he launched the nonprofit Personal Finance Institute, continuing his lifelong commitment to financial literacy for all Americans.
