With a career spanning more than four decades, Groppel has been at the forefront of translating cutting-edge sports science into practical strategies for peak human performance — both on the athletic field and in the corporate boardroom. His work bridges the worlds of elite sport, business leadership, and personal energy management, helping individuals and organizations sustain high performance under the pressures of modern life.

Groppel developed the groundbreaking Corporate Athlete® concept while serving as an associate professor of kinesiology and bioengineering at the University of Illinois and as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. Recognizing that business executives face demands comparable to elite athletes, he designed a training framework that applies the principles of physical conditioning, nutrition, mental toughness, and energy management to professional life. In 1992, he joined forces with Dr. Jim Loehr to form the Human Performance Institute, which has since worked with Olympic gold medalists, military Special Forces, Hostage Rescue teams, surgeons, and Fortune 500 CEOs to achieve sustained excellence. Groppel is a Professor at Judson University with joint appointments in Exercise & Sport Science and Business.

A Fellow of both the American College of Sports Medicine and the American College of Nutrition, Dr. Groppel has authored more than 400 articles on stress, fitness, and nutrition, along with the books The Corporate Athlete and The Corporate Athlete Advantage. He dedicated 16 years as Chairman of the National Sport Science Committee for the United States Tennis Association, earning the International Tennis Hall of Fame's Educational Merit Award in 1993 and induction into the Midwest USPTA Hall of Fame. His programs, grounded in over 30 years of proprietary research, continue to transform how individuals think about energy, resilience, and the science of performing at their best.
