Dick Sutphen
Dick Sutphen is one of America's most prolific and pioneering figures in the fields of hypnosis, past-life regression, and New Age self-development. Born and raised in Nebraska in the 1940s, Sutphen launched his professional career as an award-winning advertising art director, earning over 150 industry awards for creative work for clients such as Scotch Tape and Betty Crocker. He later established his own design studio in Scottsdale, Arizona, and in 1966 published The Mad Old Ads through McGraw-Hill, which earned a full-page feature in Newsweek.
In the mid-1970s, Sutphen's curiosity about consciousness and human potential led him to establish the Scottsdale Hypnosis Center, where he began exploring brain/mind technology and past-life regression. In 1976, he created what are widely recognized as the first commercially available prerecorded hypnosis tapes, launching Valley of the Sun Publishing, which grew to offer more than 200 audio and video titles. That same year he published You Were Born Again To Be Together through Simon & Schuster Pocket Books — a deeply personal exploration of reincarnation and karmic relationships that went on to sell nearly one million copies. His subsequent books on reincarnation, karma, and spiritual development continued to find wide audiences around the world.
For decades, Sutphen conducted seminars in up to 35 American cities per year, as well as in England, Ireland, and Australia, sharing his methods for self-hypnosis, past-life exploration, and mind programming with hundreds of thousands of participants. His work brought him to national television programs including The Phil Donahue Show, Good Morning America, and The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder. Through Nightingale-Conant, Sutphen's audio programs offer listeners a guided path into the transformative power of hypnosis and past-life awareness — tools he devoted his life to making accessible to everyday seekers of self-understanding.
