Jim Harrick with John Wooden

Jim Harrick is the 1995 Naismith and National Association of Basketball Coaches National Coach of the Year and the Pacific-10 Coach of the Year. He completed his seventh season at the UCLA basketball helm in 1995, leading UCLA to the NCAA men's basketball championship. It was the first NCAA crown in his career and UCLA's first in 20 years, since 1975, John Wooden's final season as the Bruin coach.

John Wooden, history's winningest collegiate basketball coach, retired from coaching the UCLA Bruins after the 1974-75 season. Under his leadership, the Bruins won ten NCAA championships. He is the only person to be inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach.

In the 1930s, Coach Wooden began developing the philosophy that became the Pyramid of Success, which has been studied and applied by tens of thousands of people.Nicknamed the "Wizard of Westwood", John Wooden won ten NCAA national championships in a 12-year period and seven in a row. Six times, he was named national coach of the year. Not only was he an outstanding coach, John Wooden was a phenomenal player as well. He was the first player to be named basketball All-American three times, and he won a Helms Athletic Foundation National Championship at Purdue in 1932. John Wooden was named a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1961 and as a coach in 1973. Only three people have been enshrined both as a coach and player.John Wooden had the pleasure of coaching some of the greatest basketball athletes including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Walton. He was also known for his short, inspirational speeches and messages to his players, including his "Pyramid of Success".

John Wooden -- A winner in his personal life too

In 1942, during World War II, John Wooden joined the US Navy. Serving only three years, he left the service as a lieutenant. In 2009, he was named The Sporting News "Greatest Coach of All Time.John Wooden met his future wife, Nellie (Nell) Riley, at a carnival in July 1926. They married in a small ceremony in August 1932. They have a son, James Hugh Wooden, and a daughter, Nancy Anne Muehlhausen.Nellie died on March 21, 1985 from cancer.
